Welcome to Velvetgamie's office!

good Friday, all!! ^-^

because i want to be a hardworking blogger, i decided to blog before all you readers start leaving me because this blog is so boring ;_; so today i'm gonna about something that some girls might be interested to read about.

i am going to blog about MY OFFICE! :D

technically, this office is shared between The Velvet Dolls, and Megagamie, teehee. time flies, and it's been about 6 months since we moved into this space! previously, we were cramped together with Little Red Heels in an even smaller space.. so it's a good thing we moved out! our first office was so small, when the stocks started coming in fast and furious for end of year, we practically had no space to navigate around the office. U_U

when TVD started, we were operating from home, and after awhile, my living room just started looking like a warehouse, and my daddy issued the edict that i had to get out of the house ;__; or he'd start to throw away my stocks! they were all stacked up in cardboard boxes and red plastic bags, and it was a huge mess. haha! i'm so glad we have our own little space to call the "office" now, and sometimes i find it hard to believe we actually have an actual office, and all that. #sentimental #emo

anyways, i'll blog more next time about our journey over the past two years in detail, so today, i'm just going to bring you on a guided virtual tour of our little office, okay? :D BECAUSE. my hardworking elves and i spent an entire day cleaning up, packing and organizing the office and it is SO DAMN NEAT AND COSY NOW, it deserves some pictures and an entire blog post! :D

welcome to Velvetgamie office ^__^ here's our "shop" front!
and i printed these on sticker paper and cut them out to stick on our front door.. it's so cute that looking at it makes me feel happy! ^__^ once you open the door to enter our office, the first thing you see is......

SUPER ALOT OF CLOTHES. 0_0 we have racks and racks of stocks and even more that haven't even been unbagged yet. you can imagine how messy it can potentially get :X but since we just packed them, this is already considered SUPER neat. teehee.

our stocks, organized by the type/design! tops, bottoms, outerwear, dresses etc. the outside office is where all our stocks are, and we have another inner office where we work!

deng deng deng! if you look to the left of our inner office, it's the workspace area, plus my favorite place in the office: the sofa. hahahaha. there's where i usually hang out :D :D :D

and just to show you how messy this space is most of the time, it usually looks like THIS.
yup. chaos.

moving on!! :X
snack basket on the sofa filled with some of our favorite snacks! yayyyy! i love Jagabee the most.
and no sofa is complete without plushies, we have a menagerie of animals! a duck, a cow, a bear, and a churpie bird! hehe. i keep on meaning to buy a quilt or blanket for napping purposes cos the sofa is so comfy.
moving on, here's the right side of the office! this is our makeshift studio (thus the studio lights!) as well as TVD's packing area where the hardworking elves will pack parcels for mailing. looks quite neat today with no parcels cos it's Friday!
our clothes rack, with some unreleased items on it :D usually, we'll prepare the new designs and hang it up on the racks ready for photoshoot!
and the shoe corner with the shoes we use for photoshoot. still have more shoes, but no space to put them up yet!
we also have a cabinet full of boxes full of accessories!
little dolls i bought to decorate my work table. hehehe.
minion #2 hard at work replying customers' emails! yup, i stuck a doll logo on my laptop too :X so cute right!!! hehehe. the two minions work hard to pack/mail parcels everyday, as well as reply to emails!  ^__^ it's quite a tough job, because we have got hundreds of emails to clear all the time, especially just after every week's launch. and meanwhile, they have to ensure that all the customers orders are all packed efficiently and mailed out as fast as possible!! very stressful one! really thankful for two very responsible and hardworking minions. MUACKS!

ok, i must admit. not everything is as dandy neat as they seem.. haha! we have a store area behind our racks, which is where all the random bags of old stocks and other stuff go :X
LOL.... oops. out of sight, out of mind! we normally just pretend that this area doesn't exist :X

and that's our cosy little office for you!! ^_^
we're thinking of doing a warehouse sale at our office, but it's so tiny it's gonna be a challenge! or maybe we'll make it a mini tea party cum private warehouse sale instead. heheheh. anyone interested? :D

my own friends LOVE coming over to the office to shop. they'd all come and start digging through all the racks and bags and leave with bags full of new loot! :D

my three musketeers came over one night for fun, and we bought Arnold's Fried Chicken (best fried chicken in Singapore!!!) and had a yummy fried chicken fest on the floor wheee! love you girls! :)
(this was pre-cleanup. super messy in the background if you can tell!)
Aini's far away in London now! come back soon okay!

***

this is one of the upcoming items in next week's collection and i LOVE it to pieces! it's a swallow printed flare dress with the loveliest cut, and it has super nice lace-up back details!
i love the silky fabric, super comfy and the fit is mad nice!
lace-up back details, so hard to take a picture of! wore it with a nude colored bra and it's not very obvious! the lace-up details can be used to adjust the fit of the dress too! this dress has been selling like hotcakes at Kissjane :D also comes in Cream color with black swallow prints.
wore it with my crochet shrug from Forever New! luuuurve it!

hope you thought that this little post on TVD was interesting! :D TVD is actually a huge part of my life, hehe. i just usually don't blog about TVD's day-to-day operations that much cos usually we are tooooo busy working to be so bo liao to take photos. (and also cos the office was tooooo messy previously, 见不得光) but i thought it'd be nice to show a little peek of our office and share a little! :D

alrighty, it's Friday night so i hope everyone's out for dates/gatherings/lots of fun fun fun! lots of pretty and nice clothes just arrived today, very exciting. one of my favorite parts of the job is when the stocks arrive and they are soooo pretty! makes me happy!!!

i have another give-away to do next, so staaayy tuneeeddd!!! TA!!

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Dream Team!

hello all!! i'm really excited to share these two products from Kiehl's, the Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Midnight Recovery Eye! dubbed The Dream Team, Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Midnight Recovery Eye promise nothing but purely potent overnight repair! :D

NICE OR NOT!!!! *proud*

About Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Midnight Recovery Eye

In the day, your skin is busy fending off environmental aggressors like free radicals. At night, the skin gets a breather to repair the damages, as there are few environmental aggressors to detract it from its healing process. The formulations of Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Midnight Recovery Eye enhance the natural repair and regeneration process at night, when your skin is at its maximum ability to absorb nourishing ingredients.

This dream team is formulated with a complex blend of botanical oils including Squalane, Evening Primrose and essential oils including therapeutic Lavender which are rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9 to biologically replicate skin's natural lipids and dramatically restore skin overnight. Both products are free from artificial fragrances, parabens and mineral oil, nourishing your whole face in the most natural way possible.

***

i'm sure getting a good start to the day is something that sets the mood for the entire day. when i wake up only to find a tired and dull complexion staring at me back from the mirror, i have to admit it, i feel damn lousy! and this lousy feeling carries through to the rest of the day, and intensifies whenever i get a chance to see my face in the mirror :(

due to my late sleeping hours and unhealthy lifestyle, my skin is ALWAYS looking so so dull and i am so unconfident and conscious that when i leave the house without makeup on, i always keep my fingers crossed that noone recognizes me on the streets. =.= (but alas, Murphy's Law dictates that when you're looking your worst, you're bound to run into someone who recognizes you. happens to me all the time)

i have combination skin, and my first concern was that the Midnight Recovery Concentrate would be too oily/rich for me and cause breakouts. thus, i did a bit of research, and found out that the skin’s moisture level directly relates to the amount of oil that the skin naturally produces. our skin NEEDS oil, and if the skin doesn't get enough oil, it will lead to fine lines, inflammation and lack of luminosity. however, too much oil also causes issues, such as clogged pores, acne, and a complexion so shiny and oily, you'd end up looking like a frying pan!

Myth:
Skincare products that contain any type of oil will make oily skin oilier—leading to acne and congested pores.

 Fact:
Using a skincare treatment with purely derived essential and botanical oils, which mimic the same oils that occur naturally in the skin, can be extremely beneficial to every skin type—from extremely dry, combination, and excessively oily.

thus, finding the perfect moisture (aka oil) balance is crucial to have resilient, radiant skin! essential and botanical oils are rich in healthy skin essentials such as moisturizing fatty acids, including Omegas 3, 6 and 9, which strengthen the intercellular lipid layer as well as help to stabilize skin’s natural oil production. consistent daily use of these types of oils improve skin’s natural barrier function, resulting in a smooth, hydrated, and clear complexion.

moral of the story: NOT ALL OIL IS BAD FOR YOU!

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate
Retail price (Singapore): $90

i really loved how my skin felt the next morning, after just one night of application! all it took was three drops of concentrate that was easily absorbed into the skin with gentle pats. the concentrate doesn't feel oily at all after application, and it has a natural lavender scent that is calming and relaxing, perfect for bedtime! i woke up with skin that felt more moisturized, supple and plump, and had a never-seen-before radiance to it! :D :D :D i swear, it is THAT miraculous!!! newfound love!

and the perfect companion:
Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye
Retail Price (Singapore): $72.00 for 15ml

the Midnight Recovery Eye comes with active ingredient Butcher’s Broom, a root extract known to increase microcirculation, which when combined with other tried and true powerhouse oils helps to reduce puffiness and strengthen the delicate eye area overnight. the perfect weapon against eyes puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles!

i've been using this duo together, and i must say that the results are really amazing! i've never seen my skin look better, than in the mornings after using the Midnight Recovery Concentrate! :D thank you Kiehl's for the invitation to the event, it was a blast!

Happy Father's Day 2012! Dinner at Ssikkek Korean BBQ (Novena Ville)

celebrated a belated Father's Day 2012 with a simple family dinner last Monday night, and we brought Daddy out for a meal! we headed to Ssikkek Korean BBQ Buffet Restaurant, which is located at Novena Ville, since Daddy likes Korean BBQ and Novena is quite a convenient location for us. heard that this Ssikkek is a branch of the popular 2D1N at Tanjong Pagar, and since it's nearer to us, we decided to give it a try :)
these are the Royal Highnesses, my gangster daddy and ah lian mummy. hahaha. they are gonna scold me if they see this :X
the food there is all served buffet style, and you can get a variety of different cuts of raw pork, beef and chicken meat, along with Korean side dishes (banchan) and ginseng soup and rice cake and others!! i think it's quite worth it for 22+++ for dinner :D definitely recommended for bbq and meat lovers!
some of the meat on our table. relatively fresh, and well marinated! though i felt that some of the lean meat were a little too thick and tough for me to chew well, while the fattier cuts and more thinly sliced meats were much better. also, be careful not to overcook your meat on the grill or you're gonna end up with dry and tough rubbery meat!
Korean BBQ must always be accompanied by fresh green lettuce! too much grilled meat does get overwhelming and i like to eat my meat wrapped in lettuce, with a generous dollop of BBQ sauce in it :D
gangsta daddy grilling his meat. i think it's really fun to grill your own food and eat it piping fresh and hot!! i'm the sort that likes my food hot, so i love steamboat, hotpot, BBQ, etc etc.
YZ and i! :)
and little sissy Lina on the other side of me.
here's Mummy and Gina
being an expert BBQ-er!
i rely on YZ to flex his strong arm muscles to cook me yummy food :D :D :D
some of my favorite meat, the marinated chicken, and bacon slices! teehee. the bacon is super fatty and unhealthy, but is really really tasty!!
i really enjoyed my food there, and i think i'll go back again for sure, maybe just with YZ! apparently, it's only $12+++ per pax for weekday lunch, which is super cheap for a buffet style meal! i would recommend outdoor seating though, because the ventilation is better outdoors, and you don't want to walk around smelling like a BBQ pit after your meal! it's very crowded there as well, so i'd avoid weekends, especially at night.
after GST and stuff, we paid about $27 per pax. (i think that includes a bottle of beer Daddy ordered, and an ice cream which isn't included in the buffer price) worth the money!!

全家福 ^___^ Happy Father's Day to my one and only Daddy!
and just the daughters with Daddy alone!
love my parents both.
check out the new feather earrings i bought, they match my hair so well!!
a shot of my outfit, Chopstix Aztec Dress in Magenta! i call it chopsticks cos the tri-strap details meet on the shoulders and then separates into three straps down the back again! like how we used to play that chopsticks game in our childhood :D this dress is coming up in the next collection and i love the design and prints! it comes in floral prints as well. if you also like the nude jelly wedges i was wearing, we're bringing it in on on TVD too! :))) because so many of my friends asked me to get it for them!
and check out my recent accessories haul. there are more, but i don't have pictures of everything! :X
alrighty, i'm off for a shower (just came back from my morning jog!) and then to start work! Fridays are the best :) also, i'm gonna be cleaning up the labels/categories on my blog a little so it's more organized and easier for readers to look for the posts they're interested in! :))) i've decided to organize my blog into the following categories: beauty (includes skincare, makeup, hair, product reviews and etc), food (self explanatory, haha), events, advertorials, travel, thevelvetdolls, and fashion! and of course just a general "life and love" category too.
thank you for reading, and come back to visit soon! i'll also be announcing the winners for the L'occitane give-away next! the response was really great, and i wish i had more sets to give away (like i always feel each time i do a give-away!) no worries if you don't get anything this time, cos i'd still be conducting give-aways every now and then! it's a little sad that so many readers comment to participate in the give-away, but on my daily blog posts, all these readers don't say anything! :( i'd like to know that you're reading this space, and i would love to hear from you! so do leave a comment every now and then!
have a great Friday, everyone!

Foodie Dates at Tonkatsu Ma Masion & Sukiya + L'occitane Give-away!

life is so awesome when you have friends, family and love.
i really think one of the greatest pleasures in life is sharing good company over good food! though it's definitely not good for my diet, hehe. it really can't be helped, i love to eat too much :X

went out for a dinner date with my girls the other day, which was right after i got my hair done at Salon Vim! we had initially planned on going to Antoinette or Wild Honey at Mandarin Gallery, but Antoinette was too crowded, and after some of the girls arrived earlier to queue at Wild Honey, we were told they had to give away our table because a couple of us were not there yet. #angryface
and it wasn't even a weekend night!

not the best service i feel. so we decided to go somewhere else for our meal instead, and we ended up at  Tonkatsu by Ma Maison, also at Mandarin Gallery! Wild Honey called us up while we were queuing for Tonkatsu by Ma Maison to inform us that they had seats available for us already, but we rejected it on principle. HAHA :P

if you want to have Tonkatsu, this is the place to go. because just about every single item on the menu is..... *drum rolls* Tonkatsu. LOLOL. there's almost nothing else on the menu, except slight variations like chicken/prawn and others like katsu don. this place is seriously Pork Cutlet Heaven!
on the other side of the table: Wendy, Fel and Joyce! :D
on my side, Nancy, Debs and me :D
we all ordered one Tonkatsu each except for Nancy who went for the Katsu Don. some of the other girls had the mixed set too which has Ebi Tempura in it! and this is the three girls showing no mercy to the pickled radish appetizer. i mean, it's only radish! need to be so paparazzi or not! hahaha. they so funny.
and this is my super awesome Negi Miso Rosu Katsu set.

every set comes with refillable cabbage, rice and miso soup!!!! MAD AWESOME. and the miso soup is the BEST i've ever tasted! i had 4 bowls of it :X there's pork and radish in it and it's so so so yummy. for the rice, you can choose from either white rice, or a healthier multi-grain rice.

my pork cutlet was deep fried to a crispy crunchy batter finish, but the pork was still soft and juicy! tasted wonderful with the miso sauce! though it was a tad salty, but i'm a sodium junkie :D i spammed sesame dressing on my cabbage salad as well, and finished the entire mountain of it! NOM NOM.
happy with my food! as you can see, the portion is quite huge for being re-fillable too. i couldn't finish my cutlet, but i had extra servings of cabbage and miso soup!
variety of condiments available! i didn't try any of those, except for the sesame dressing. love it!
the compulsory group shot! :D love catching up with these girls over a good meal. we have to meet more often! thanks to Wendy for organizing this one ❤❤❤
we ended off with dessert at Coffee Club nearby! their mudpie is delish and feeds many people. love it! poor Wendy and Nancy ordered the wrong thing and got hot coffee instead of iced ones :X hahahaha. sad max! let's plan the next outing again soon!

***

and just last Saturday, i was really craving for some meat, so i asked YZ to go to Sukiya with me! :D

actually, i asked the girls before our dinner date if they wanted to go Sukiya. HAHA. but they said no :( so, i finally got my sukiyaki craving satisfied with YZ instead! :D :D :D so happy!!! the queue was rather long, and we had to wait around 15-20 minutes. but it was worth it! :D

my handsome boyfriend :X

i love love love Sukiya because they have not just free-flow meat, but also a pretty decent selection of steamboat ingredients! though i usually concentrate on the meat :D

we always start off with six plates of meat, haha. two each of chicken, beef and pork :X and then we order extra from there depending on our preference for the day!

veggies and mushrooms for the soup!
you must must must dip your meat in the raw egg. beat it thoroughly first!

we had Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu soup base! Kimchi soup base is also available.

this cheese ball thingy is way awesome. can i find it at NTUC or something??

and the ice cream didn't use to be free-flow, but i think it is now!!! :D it's not super good quality, but it's decent soft serve and i love mine with cornflakes!

the two of us finished 10 plates of meat and we were soooo stuffed!!! i had difficulty walking after the meal :X but i love meat!!! *carnivore* cannot resist. SO GOOD! i wanna eat again soon! :D the two of us really love to eat :D it's a good thing that we're both more health-conscious now! YZ's been exercising regularly as well and he jogs 10km a day! insane or what!

we went for a run together last week, and covered 8KM! siao. i was like dying and dragging my feet through out and had to take walk breaks, but it was like a no-brainer for YZ =.= he said he wanted to fall asleep cos it was so boring to run with me FML.
still, it's a HUGE achievement for me! :D but i am too lazy to run so far on my regular jogs la. trying to do at least 4KM, 4 times a week :D so far, i've been keeping up quite well! at least some of the calories i've been taking in like crazy have been burnt off.

***

my outfit for Sunday! Dazzle Sequin Cropped Top in Black, with the Pastel Candy Jeans in Salmon and Cambridge Satchel in Burgundy. i love the sequined top and how edgy it looks!

and here's a preview of my awesome new hair. you can't really see the pink streaks from the front, haha. will blog with more photos soon! Salon Vim's having their 30% off GSS promo for Cut+Color+Highlight so you should take the opportunity to get your hair pampered now!

***
