The Nail Artelier: Porcelain Turquoise X White Nails

For someone who usually doesn't give two hoots about her nails, I am SO addicted to the insanely beautiful nails I've come to know and love, with thanks to The Nail Artelier!

Since my previous set of gelish nails were growing out already, I thought it was high time for a new set of nails!

You know how much I adored the previous set of rainbow seashell nails Jenrine did for me, so I was racking my brains to think of a fresh design for the nails that I would love as much, or even more! Looking for nail designs can be such an arduous task. 

Jenrine handed me a towering stack of Japanese nail magazines for inspiration, and I was stuck for a good twenty minutes, pondering over which nail design to pick. What made it even harder was that every single design looked so lovely, and I knew that whatever design I picked would certainly be executed impeccably by skilled Jenrine with utmost precision and artistic flair!

A stack of sample nail art that I flipped through for inspiration... What should I go for, something graphic? Cute? Elegant? Classy? Mod? Endless possibilities!

After much dithering back and forth amongst some shortlisted designs, I finally settled on a white and turquoise nail design that looked clean and fresh! Had a wedding to attend that week, so I thought the white and turquoise colors would look nice and classy for the occasion. We did make some slight modifications to the final design, with both Jenrine's and my input!

It's always a pleasant experience at The Nail Artelier, because I enjoy watching Jenrine work her magic on my nails very much! Jenrine's very meticulous, and you can see that she takes huge pride in her craft. 

I had fun picking out colorful glitter pieces (Jenrine calls them disco balls lol) for my accent nails!

Decided to keep it simple with the pearl white and pale mint ones, they looked so charming together!

The end result.. I couldn't be more pleased with it!! 

We modified the design to something more porcelain and floral looking, and it looked really good in this color combination! The disco ball accent nail gave the nail art an extra dimension whilst Jenrine also added simple and delicate silver embellishments on my ring finger. I thought that the nails turned out GORGEOUS! *hearts* 

You wouldn't believe how intricate the hand-drawn porcelain details are, many of my friends mistook them for nail stickers, because they were so well-done!

Can't rave enough about Jenrine's exquisite work on my nails! And I'm being really diligent in growing out my nails longer now so that I can make them oval shaped next visit (oval shaped nails are in now!!) :D

Also, Gelish is so awesomely convenient because it dries so quickly and is so sturdy! God-sent for clumsy and rough girls like me. My usual polish manicures usually get smudged and destroyed just minutes after exiting the nail salon! Now, my nails still look amazing after three weeks!

The Nail Artelier: Best nail art in Singapore, ever!

Remember my previous blog post about The Nail Artelier, when Jenrine created a set of amazing TheVelvetDolls-inspired nails for me?

What I love about The Nail Artelier is that you aren't restricted to a certain style at all, because they do everything so well! I'm not a girly girly kind of nail art person, but I do love embellishments, happy colors and bling on my nails! So I am really excited to be in the good hands of The Nail Artelier from now on! ^.^

Back to me hohoho. 

I usually request for Gelish manicures, because they are so hardy and last really long! Plus I don't have to be worried about chipping off the polish accidentally, or having to wait super long for it to dry after the session. Gelish FTW!!

The huge assortment of colours! I'm really terrible when it comes to picking colours for my nails. And also designs too! Takes me forever to make up my mind because seriously, you can have practically anything you request for! (Customisation available at The Nail Artelier!)

Evonne is my source of inspiration for nail art, told her I was heading to The Nail Artelier to get my nails done and she sent me a few different designs she found online for me to pick from! Thank you woman! After much deliberation, I settled on a beach-themed rainbow design!

You can also google online for nail inspiration, or even flip through the huge selection of Japanese nail magazines at The Nail Artelier to find something you like, then show your nailist, trust me when I say they will be able to do something that's nearly identical, or in my case, even prettier than the original reference! :D

I showed Jenrine a photo of the nails I wanted to do, and she got to work straight away!

Love how Jenrine works out of a paint palette! Makes me feel like my nails are canvases of art.

After doing the usual nail prepping like shaping of nails and cleaning the cuticles, Jenrine got started on painting the rainbow base for my nails!

There were a total of six colors used to create that lovely rainbow effect.. Super love!

Embellishments and bling for my nails! The Nail Artelier has got the widest array of nail embellishments I've ever seen @.@ Ying (the other founder) flies to Japan frequently and sources for all these beautiful nail embellishments that aren't available locally! Look at those tiny seashells, so pretty!

Jenrine carefully placing the embellishments on my nails! She made the entire process look so effortless seriously. But I know that it takes a mad amount of skills and work to create such beautiful nail masterpieces! Please, I can't even paint my nails one single color. #fail

And the end results were even better than what I'd imagined! Really and truly!

I LOVE THEM! 

Just look at the seashell and gem embellishments, it makes me want to put on a sundress and go frolick about on the sands!

Super close-up because pictures don't do the beautiful nail work justice. Pictures just can't capture the myriad of rainbow colours that are so damn pretty! And there are so many details to look at, cos every nail is different!

I also got a plain Gelish pedicure done on my toes too, hehehe. But don't want to post ugly pictures of my feet on my blog kay.

Frivolous things sometimes make me very happy.

For instance, manicures!

Actually, the last manicure that I got done at a salon was probably about a year ago! I'm not as nail crazy as some of my friends, and usually just let my manicures grow out, much to the horror and dismay of my friends who are crazy over polishes and nails. But well, I am really not too fussed about nails most of the time!

If I do get my nails done nicely though, I make sure that they are super awesome and pretty! Just like this specially customized set of The Velvet Doll nails done by Jenrine of The Nail Artelier, how pretty are they?

I can't even begin to express how much I love them, on so many counts!!

1. Jenrine's skill at nail art is impeccable!

2. Pastel colors.. They just put me in a good mood.

3. The Velvet Dolls logo right on my nails?! This is definitely the mark of good branding, and a well-designed logo. (HAHAHA. *pats self on back*)

Would you believe that all the doll designs were painstakingly hand-drawn by Jenrine herself? She's really amazing at it, and I was so pleased with the results!

I've been attending my fair bit of events lately, and you know, events always look like they're so fun, but after you've attended one too many, they can be quite a drag sometimes!

Thankfully, the babes at Benefit always know how to make an event fun, and I had a really awesome time at Benefit's "Welcome To Flawless" event, that was held at Five and Dime Eatery!

I didn't manage to take much pictures during the event, so I'd just share some of those I found on Instagram! We were given a demonstration of Benefit's amazing new 15-hour primer, Stay Flawless!

I've always been a fan of Benefit's fun packaging and great products, and I can't wait to try this soon! :) I promise a review as well if it's good! :P

We had a super cute photo booth and all of us went insane! Haha. Everyone loves photo booths and props at events, can never go wrong! And of course, lots of canapes that were provided by Five and Dime!

I love it that attending events now are so much more enjoyable than they used to be, when I first started attending events, I was so awkward and loner-ish =.= Glad to have such wonderful company now!!

Some of us decided to stay at Five and Dime for lunch after the event, the inital plan was to travel to Changi for crabmeat pasta at La Cantina... But our plans got foiled because the restaurant closes in the afternoon! Meh. And the weather was just insanely hot that day so we were all like, LET'S JUST STAY HERE.

The dishes we ordered:

Mentaiko Pasta ($18)
Spaghetti tossed in creamy mentaiko, topped with more cod fish roe

Both Jess and Tricia ordered the Mentaiko Pasta: Jess didn't really like this, but Tricia loved it! But then again, Jess is such an amazing cook, her standards for food are on a totally different level from us common folks. I tried a couple mouthfuls and I thought it was nice, but not quite worth the $18 for only having just mentaiko and no meat!

Big Brekkie ($22)
Choice of scrambled or sunny side up eggs with pork bacon, chicken chipolata sausages, baked beans, sauteed mushrooms and thick toast

Evonne's Big Brekkie had really great scrambled eggs, but she said the sausages weren't fantastic. I don't like baked beans anyhow, so I didn't order this. I did try the scrambled eggs which were very tasty!

Miso Duck Salad ($12)
Romaine Lettuce tossed with Miso Sesame Dressing

After much contemplation, I settled for the Miso Duck Salad, which was very fresh and yummy! I liked the slices of duck and the fresh greens with miso sesame dressing! The japanese touch with the wakame seaweed and cubes of tofu was nice too! It wasn't a WOW dish though, so going back again just for a salad probably won't be on my agenda.

The desserts actually impressed us a whole lot more actually, even though the selection is quite limited!

Spiced Strawberries Eton Mess ($12)
With balsamic strawberries, creme anglais and spiced meringue

We all liked this dish, with the crisp meringue and the delicious creme anglais! I can't imagine one person finishing off the entire dish though. Definitely made for sharing.

Cranberry Almond Cake with Ice Cream (??)

And my favourite dish by far, the cranberry almond cake, with two scoops of vanilla ice cream on top of it! The cake was warmed up, so it tasted absolutely divine with the vanilla ice cream: I have a thing for baked desserts with ice cream teehee. And our little ice cream snowman was too adorable, with raspberries for ears and coffee beans for eyes!

We were all squealing like crazy while camwhoring with the ice cream snowman LOL. Before it started melting with its ears falling off! Probably the best part of my meal. Oops.

My conclusion: I wouldn't specially make a trip down to have a meal at Five and Dime, but if I were in the vicinity, I would still consider it?

Sorry this entry is such a mish-mash of random things, haha. I hope it's not too confusing to read! :S I've been trying to get back my blogging mojo recently. Decided that I want to update more often, so that I don't feel like time is slipping past me faster than I can document it down, frivolous or not! 

It's funny how much blogging (and social media) is a part of my life now. YZ and I had a long discussion the other day on how different we both were, six years ago, and now! Wouldn't have seen myself where I am today, if you'd asked me five years ago, where I'd be in five years time. But life is completely unpredictable like that, which is what makes life life, isn't it?
