FotD: Lancome Spring Color Collection 2013 + Hypnose Star Mascara

I'm so hyped up for spring, because it means that colors and florals are coming out to play, and those are some of my favourite things in the world!

Got to swatch and try some of the products, and they are really really gorgeous! The packaging is really adorable and very different from Lancôme's usual. More flirtatious and girly, I would say?

My favourites are definitely the Khol in Love eyeliner in Jade Crush, and the Blush in Love in Pommettes D’ Amour. The Khol in Love eyeliner in Jade Crush is incredibly creamy and pigmented, and the shade of green is beautiful! The blush consists of two different shades in a intricately embossed floral motif and blends into a lovely peachy pink on the skin.

Lancome’s IN LOVE Limited Edition Spring Collection (2013) will be stocked only in a few selected locations – Takashimaya, Tangs, Robinsons Raffles City and Robinsons Centrepoint, and is available now.

And the final look. The blush really gives a very nice sun-kissed and pink glow to my cheeks!

Close up of the eye. I've stopped using falsies lately because I'm starting to find them too dramatic/unnecessary for everyday make up! The Hypnose Star Waterproof Mascara works really well to hold up the curl of my lashes, as well as give me sleek black volumised and feathery lashes that frame my eyes beautifully!


Coincidentally, both Evonne and I were wearing the same Khol in Love eyeliner in Jade Crush. Doesn't it look stunning on her?

FotD: Dolling up

i've been experimenting with different looks lately,

and i think that's really one of the advantages of being born the fairer sex: no one ever accuses a girl for wanting to doll up... no? :P

(don't you just love the iPhone with all its beautifying filters and apps?)

did a more Japanese-inspired look to play with some new items i picked up at Watsons: Koji Springheart's brown eye shadow in #01 Mocha, and Heroine Make's bottom falsies in #09! this is not a makeup tutorial of any sort, but would there be any one of you interested in a step-by-step walkthrough or something?

i do love how drugstore brands are so affordable, and with all the Japanese brands Watsons has been bringing in, it's really getting much more interesting to step into Watsons, and i absolutely adore that!

i don't have a swatch for the eyeshadow, but you can check out Evonne's blog post here on the four shades available for Koji Springheart's brown shadows. i like shade #01: Mocha best (which is the shade i used!) it works perfectly as a shimmer shadow to contour the outer corners of my eyelids, and the look is extremely subtle but still sparkly! :D yes, i'm always one for shimmery eyeshadows. i like how they brighten up my eyes instantly! matte shadows just don't hold the same appeal for me!

the trick to making your eyes look bigger/rounder with bottom falsies: stick them just a wee bit lower than your actual lash line, and taadaaaa! instant big-eye effect. it does take some practice to get it right, i had to re-do it a couple of times, it being my first clumsy attempt at bottom falsies!

here's a close-up: took these shots at the end of the day so some of my makeup wore off already, but you can use a white eyepencil to line the area below your real lash line and above your bottom falsies to really open up the eyes. i wore a very natural pair of falsies from Dolly Wink (i forgot which number because i opened this pair so long ago and have been re-using it!) on top of mascara, because i wanted to keep it looking more natural. upper falsies that are too bombastic make my eyes look tired and heavy sometimes!

the contact lens are a pair that i got in Malaysia during my Genting trip, they are really gorgeous but i'm not sure how authentic they are! (bought them off a random counter in a departmental store..) the brand is called Airashii or something like that. suprisingly comfortable, but i wouldn't wear them everyday because they are a little too dramatic for a daily look!

oh yes, eyebrow mascara is a must too! i blogged on some of my favourite eyebrow products from DollyWink here (yet another Japanese brand available at Watsons!) including eyebrow mascara, which is really really awesome if you have light colored hair like me.

i'm also using a new BB cream as base, and this new BB cream is currently my favorite! the last BB cream i really loved is Biotherm's White D-tox, which i've been using for almost 2 years, but i think i've found a new contender for that position of favourite BB cream! :D i'll blog more about that BB cream in a future post, so stay tuned! :)

with possibly my most extravagant indulgence of the year! i'm not sure exactly how it happened... i just walked past a 2nd hand shop, spotted the gorgeous vintage Chanel in the window display, walked into the shop, and bought it on the spot! TSK. but instant euphoria!

i'm so happy to finally own my own Chanel flap, and i am loving the vintage as it comes in a larger size, without the double flap, which is perfect for me since i like to carry lots of stuff around! plus i won't be feeling so leery about carrying it out, as compared to getting a brand new one, since it's already vintage and is pretty much in a well-used condition. heh heh heh. and obviously, it is way way cheaper than a brand new Chanel, so yes!! score! one off the bucketlist.

upcoming on TheVelvetDolls, Aztec tube romper, paired with an obi sash and the (previously launched and sold out) Ashford Blazer in White. i have come to the realization that nothing really looks very bad with a white blazer thrown over. in fact, white blazer over practically anything = awesomely stylish looking hahahaha.

and the perfect slip-over-and-go dress, the Lace Sleeve Skater Dress, in Wine. just one of those dresses you need because it's so easy to wear! comfort, check. great fit, check. lovely lace accented sleeves, checkkkk. i've been wearing it more times than i can remember because it's really just slip on and out of the house! we all need more dresses like that.

and an abrupt end to this random post. i shall go and squeeze in another two hours of sleep before i have to be up again! and i'm taking an off day today for dating (my boyfriend out. hahahaha). it's been way too long since the last time we took the effort to dress up, go out, and spend some pak tor time!

FotD: Heavy Rotation Creamy Cheeks Review + OtD

here's another beauty related post, i hope you girls enjoy reading these posts, beauty/makeup/skincare is an area i'm really interested in because i want to look good, which i'm sure is the same as with every girl out there! and since i don't have a 天生丽质 beautiful face, i gotta depend a lot on good skincare and makeup to save the day :( thank God for makeup. lolol.

it's been some time since i posted a FotD (Face of the Day) and since i regularly get inquiries about the make-up i use on a daily basis, here's my FotD for a few days ago: it's my "made up but still looking natural" face!

anyway, i realized that i skipped out on my concealer, but it's the same one i always use and it's not available in Singapore anymore too :( but if you're interested, it's Beauty Tech Ice Cream Concealer and you can get it from Sasa in Hongkong!

 

final look! i decided to add on falsies from DollyWink as well :P but the bottom lashes are all Heroine Make Long & Curl! favorite mascara now!

 

it's my first time trying out this cream based blusher from a brand called Heavy Rotation, and i was pleasantly surprised with the results! i usually steer clear from cream blushes because i find them hard to blend and find that it makes me look wayang-ish with two splotches of color on my cheeks :( 

Creamy Cheeks by Heavy Rotation is really very creamy and light, and it blends in easily onto your skin, leaving a natural pink glow with the slightest amount of shimmer! i just squeeze a tiny dot of the product onto my finger and dot it onto my cheeks before spreading it in a circular motion with my finger.

seems a little scary and bright pink straight from the tube, but look how natural it is after it's blended into the skin! i love the ease of application! definitely two thumbs up for being so fuss free. i'd ensure that my hands/fingers are clean before application though! wouldn't want germs to be transferred to my cheeks.

and sinful indulgence, yummy macaroons from Antoinette! diet front this week hasn't been too healthy, i've been eating very well and happily :S ah well, we all need a break because life would be dull without good food.

anyway, i'm off for my jog in abit! didn't jog the past couple of days and feeling rather guilty about all the indulging in good food while being so slack with the working out :( probably because i've been spending a lot of time with friends and loved ones over food this week! food always tastes so good when it's enjoyed with loved company :D

Wendy & Mark's Wedding Lunch + Soda-pop Cap Lip Smackers!

woohoo!!! i'm damn efficient max for a change today and decided to blog about Wendy's wedding lunch we attended earlier just today... cos after i got back home, i didn't have anything to do and i figured i might as well!!! :X 

usually, the longer i take to edit pictures/blog about something, the chances of it actually seeing the light of day gets lesser and lesser. couldn't let that happen to Wendy's big day, so ta-daaaaahhh!! shall blog about it now! ahaha.

starting with my face of the day! just opened a brand new bottle of foundation to try and it's so nice! light-weight and really brightens up the complexion. plus it doesn't have that heavy skin-cannot-breathe feel some liquid foundations have.

 

chio right!!! :X super simple makeup with a good foundation base works wonders. also wearing FreshKon's enlarging eye contact lens in brown! really natural.

the foundation is Lancome's Teint Miracle! love it. blends in perfectly into my skin tone and suddenly i have flawless skin :D this is my 2nd liquid foundation (first one is MAC) and i like it so much better!

 

picking up QQ to camwhore but this dog just refuses to look at the camera! i swear she does it on purpose. TSK. but still so cute! hehehe. 

Fel came over to my place first cos Joyce was gonna give us a lift to the wedding lunch! while waiting, we camwhore lor. what else. hahaha. and played with my doggies! anyway, i have a new Doberman pup, called Coco (named by Clara/dblchin!!! LOL) and she's only 3 months old and still super destructive! she chewed Fel's shoe until the ribbon drop out!!! =_____= my sister's shoe also got chewed! 

meet Coco! she's already quite big and she's gonna get bigger! she's damn manja though! keeps on trying to get our attention and she's whining at night cos she's all alone by herself.

LOL. we took two big detours and ended up in this ulu road instead!!! but luckily still got iPhone GPS to save the day :D so we reached Sheraton Towers just in time!!!

like i mentioned, it was really a short and sweet affair, so there were no long lengthy speeches, no yam seng and all that! just the march-in, cake-cutting and champagne pouring! which i think is already enough cos when it drags out so long, the guests get bored also!

but now, we can enjoy our food instead :D the food at Sheraton is really good!!!

the couple also decided to do away with sharks fin, so we had abalone, sea cucumber, fish maw and dried scallop soup instead! actually, i like to eat shark fins one. but also good la. save the sharks!

favorite dish! deep fried scallop in a mini yam ring!!! i had... one and a HALF. cos i made Joyce share another half with me :X so yummy!!!

only realized afterwards i didn't take pictures of one dish which is the abalone with spinach. cos the banquet waitresses all serve the food so fast i forgot to take pictures! all our food was served into individual portions after they presented the entire dish at the table! hmm. means you cannot eat more without looking like a glut or be a fussy eater cos it will show on your plate! but aiya, all friends so it's ok.

gorgeous toga dress from Topshop that i bought almost a year ago and haven't gotten the chance to wear it yet. it's so pretty! nice shade of pale green, pastels are so back in fashion this season so you oughta go dig out all your pastel clothes too! :D i love the ruffles and asymmetrical hem! matched it with my gladiator heels from GUESS and a studded sling bag so it doesn't look so dressy/girly! had the intention of manufacturing a similar piece for TVD but i think the workmanship would be waaay too costly. yay/nay?

moving on, i received this strange brown package in the mail last week and i was wondering what it was.....
 
it says "The Good Old Days" in front and has my name on it??? i was like ???!!!! SHEN ME LAI DE??!!

then i opened it up and i went like HUH? hahahahaha. so cute! it's filled with old school toys that some of you must have played with during your childhood, unless you are too young :X in which case you don't belong in my era!!!

amidst all the old school toys... do you spot some objects camouflaging? :D yes!!! those soft drink bottle caps....

they are actually Lip Smacker Soda-pop Cap lip balms! ^_^

so YZ has been away for the past one week already, and there's still a week before he's back!! we've been keeping in touch via Skype and Whatsapp though, thank goodness for technology :D

Skyping intercontinentally... hehehe. so corny but after not seeing him for so many days getting to see him on Skype puts a smile on my face! ^_^

apparently, he's having a ball of a time over in South Africia and he sent me some pictures of the scenery, which is breathtakingly beautiful! super clear blue skies and gorgeous shores.

and this silly boy surprises me with some really sweet gestures like this every now and then... seeing this picture put another smile on my face too ^_^

counting down til Saturday when he comes back! :D good thing i have lots of activities to keep me busy til Saturday rolls around,

for instance, tomorrow is Nuffnang's 5th anniversary birthday bash dinner at Swisshotel!!! OMG. i haven't figured out what to wear and i need to book a last minute hair appointment at Salon Vim! but still, so excited about it cos i think it's gonna be a blast!!! plus, get to catch up with all the Nuffies and bloggers too! heehee absolutely cannot wait!
