FotD: Dolling up

i've been experimenting with different looks lately,

and i think that's really one of the advantages of being born the fairer sex: no one ever accuses a girl for wanting to doll up... no? :P

(don't you just love the iPhone with all its beautifying filters and apps?)

did a more Japanese-inspired look to play with some new items i picked up at Watsons: Koji Springheart's brown eye shadow in #01 Mocha, and Heroine Make's bottom falsies in #09! this is not a makeup tutorial of any sort, but would there be any one of you interested in a step-by-step walkthrough or something?

i do love how drugstore brands are so affordable, and with all the Japanese brands Watsons has been bringing in, it's really getting much more interesting to step into Watsons, and i absolutely adore that!

i don't have a swatch for the eyeshadow, but you can check out Evonne's blog post here on the four shades available for Koji Springheart's brown shadows. i like shade #01: Mocha best (which is the shade i used!) it works perfectly as a shimmer shadow to contour the outer corners of my eyelids, and the look is extremely subtle but still sparkly! :D yes, i'm always one for shimmery eyeshadows. i like how they brighten up my eyes instantly! matte shadows just don't hold the same appeal for me!

the trick to making your eyes look bigger/rounder with bottom falsies: stick them just a wee bit lower than your actual lash line, and taadaaaa! instant big-eye effect. it does take some practice to get it right, i had to re-do it a couple of times, it being my first clumsy attempt at bottom falsies!

here's a close-up: took these shots at the end of the day so some of my makeup wore off already, but you can use a white eyepencil to line the area below your real lash line and above your bottom falsies to really open up the eyes. i wore a very natural pair of falsies from Dolly Wink (i forgot which number because i opened this pair so long ago and have been re-using it!) on top of mascara, because i wanted to keep it looking more natural. upper falsies that are too bombastic make my eyes look tired and heavy sometimes!

the contact lens are a pair that i got in Malaysia during my Genting trip, they are really gorgeous but i'm not sure how authentic they are! (bought them off a random counter in a departmental store..) the brand is called Airashii or something like that. suprisingly comfortable, but i wouldn't wear them everyday because they are a little too dramatic for a daily look!

oh yes, eyebrow mascara is a must too! i blogged on some of my favourite eyebrow products from DollyWink here (yet another Japanese brand available at Watsons!) including eyebrow mascara, which is really really awesome if you have light colored hair like me.

i'm also using a new BB cream as base, and this new BB cream is currently my favorite! the last BB cream i really loved is Biotherm's White D-tox, which i've been using for almost 2 years, but i think i've found a new contender for that position of favourite BB cream! :D i'll blog more about that BB cream in a future post, so stay tuned! :)

with possibly my most extravagant indulgence of the year! i'm not sure exactly how it happened... i just walked past a 2nd hand shop, spotted the gorgeous vintage Chanel in the window display, walked into the shop, and bought it on the spot! TSK. but instant euphoria!

i'm so happy to finally own my own Chanel flap, and i am loving the vintage as it comes in a larger size, without the double flap, which is perfect for me since i like to carry lots of stuff around! plus i won't be feeling so leery about carrying it out, as compared to getting a brand new one, since it's already vintage and is pretty much in a well-used condition. heh heh heh. and obviously, it is way way cheaper than a brand new Chanel, so yes!! score! one off the bucketlist.

upcoming on TheVelvetDolls, Aztec tube romper, paired with an obi sash and the (previously launched and sold out) Ashford Blazer in White. i have come to the realization that nothing really looks very bad with a white blazer thrown over. in fact, white blazer over practically anything = awesomely stylish looking hahahaha.

and the perfect slip-over-and-go dress, the Lace Sleeve Skater Dress, in Wine. just one of those dresses you need because it's so easy to wear! comfort, check. great fit, check. lovely lace accented sleeves, checkkkk. i've been wearing it more times than i can remember because it's really just slip on and out of the house! we all need more dresses like that.

and an abrupt end to this random post. i shall go and squeeze in another two hours of sleep before i have to be up again! and i'm taking an off day today for dating (my boyfriend out. hahahaha). it's been way too long since the last time we took the effort to dress up, go out, and spend some pak tor time!

Review: Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes (Give-away!) + More Cambridge Satchel Love

got to try the mascara at home for myself too, and i gotta say i looove the flowery rose scent of the product! :D the conical shape of the brush makes it really easy to reach even the inner/outer corners of your eyes, and the effect is so natural, but opens up your eyes dramatically at the same time, for that wide-eyed doll look! :D it doesn't clump easily unlike some other mascaras, and i really like the end result.

my verdict: this is a product that really delivers what it promises!

Lancôme even came up with a Facebook app for you to fiddle with and create your very own doll avatar by uploading a photo of your face, and it's super fun to play with!!! :D :D :D my doll looks very generic though. haha! can't really tell that it's me, huh?

and so i decided to bring out the Cambridge Satchel in Yellow 14" for some fresh air yesterday, and thanks to all the votes of confidence from friends on Twitter and Instagram, i stepped out courageously looking like this:

awesome possum lilac floral blazer i scored from F21 sale, for only 35 buckeroos!!! :D mad love the prints on it! and i thought that the pale lilac would look smashing with the yellow Cambridge Satchel, teehee. didn't turn out too bad, i think?

love the dash of color the yellow Cambridge Satchel adds to the outfit!!! mucho loves.

i think you peeps are gonna be so sick of seeing and reading about the Cambridge Satchel real soon, i'm probably gonna carry the Cambridge Satchels out for the next few weeks until i exhaust all outfit and color combination possibilities and maybe get sick of it. LOL. bear with me, okay?! and yes, i think i am gonna end up keeping TWO for myself!!! haha. justifying that if i keep the Burgundy 14"(limited edition some more!) and Yellow 13"(simply cannot resist the gorgeous happy yellow shade), they are in different sizes and look totally different so it's okay :D

anyway, YZ and I are doing a 7-day Neera Detox diet, and today's the 4th day!!! uh huh, 7 friggin' days of non-food. because YZ's doing a catalogue photoshoot for Giant and he wants to look skinnier lololol y'know "ai sui mai mia" (want good-looking don't want life) so we are both doing it together, since i want to cut down on my food intake and lose some weight as well!

sounds like a torture, but it isn't that bad cos i get full on the drink pretty okay, but after 4 days of this drink, even a bowl of plain soup sounds appetizing to me. okay, shall peservere on til next Tuesday! :D CAN'T WAIT. woohoo!!! say no to fats!

Cambridge Satchel!!!

GUESS WHAT ARRIVED FOR ME AT THE DOORSTEP TODAY!!!

okay... actually it's no secret cos i've already posted pictures and tweets all over my Instagram and Twitter! =_= but i'm so excited i wanted to show off more pictures of these babies :D so just act as if you're seeing them for the first time ok!!! :D :D :D

finally succumbed to all the damn gorgeous pictures of the Cambridge Satchels that i've been seeing all over (just google Cambridge Satchel, and you'll know what i mean!), and decided to get not just 1, but 3 of these beauties!!!!!

BEHOLD!

read up abit on these beauties and their history is pretty interesting, the company was actually started by a mother who wanted to look for Harry Potter-esque schoolbag satchels that were functional and practical for her children to carry to school, and it ended up being revolutionary in the designer/fashion scene! they are really attractive: i am sooo in love with the mega gorgeous pop colors, the smooth leather and the simple satchel design: it will instantly prep up any outfit! though i don't see how it makes a good schoolbag, it looks big but honestly it's rather slim: you probably won't be able to fit more than one (slim) Physics textbook in it! hahaha.

so i ended up getting THREE. hahaha. i had such a hard time musing over which color/size to choose, and ended up with the Burgundy Red 13" (limited edition), Yellow 14" and Purple 14"! both 13" and 14" seem quite use-able to me, though i think i'd be better off with keeping one of the 14" cos i usually lug around so many things including my MacBook Air and my cameras!

and now that they've arrived on my doorstep literally barely 12 hours after i placed my order with Doorstepluxury (super efficient!), i am still in a conundrum over which color to keep for myself!! because i'm gonna be giving away one of these Cambridge Satchels to celebrate TVD's 100th collection which is coming up very very soon!!! AWESOME OR WHAT! heh. very very very excited about it!!!

so one bag is for the give-away, and i will pick one for myself. and possibly keep a second one or maybe sell it to one of my friends cos half of them are lusting over the Cambridge Satchel as well. oh no! i still can't decide which!!!

i love the Burgundy one, but then i love the Yellow too. and the Purple is super cute. *dies* you see, i really can't decide :( WHICH COLOR SHOULD I KEEP???

the stitching and workmanship's really good! it's troublesome though cos you have to manually unbuckle/buckle the straps, there are no magnetic buttons. i don't care, this bag is too gorgeous for me to fuss over small details like that. heh! the leather feels really smooth and nice!

and now i am thinking of coordinating my outfit for tomorrow with one of these satchels already!!! i have a feeling i'll end up keeping the Yellow one :D hehe. will def post up outfit pictures featuring the satchels once i get the chance to show off these babies!

so so so so so so pretty!!! the last time i got this excited over a purchase was probably when i was in my House of Harlow accessories craze :D heh. so easy to make girls happy!

and ending off this pretty much short and useless post with pictures of fat Baby because she happened to be in the way! haha!

she is omg obscenely fat for a Chihuahua. i swear we don't feed her anything bad, but she keeps on stealing QQ's food! poor QQ.

going to dream about how to turn all my outfits into high fashion designer looks with my Cambridge Satchel now. HAHAHA. just kidding (kind of). i hope you like the scrapbooking layout too cos i haven't done it for a long time and i thought i'd do something simple but pretty! :)))
